Paislee’s 5th Birthday

Today is Paislee’s 5th Birthday. We decided to invite some of her closest friends and all the girls from her class. The party turned out so good and I think she had a blast. But it was hard to see my youngest turn 5. They grow up too fast.

Preschool Mothers Day program

preschool mothers day

I was invited to Paislee’s preschool today for a mothers day program. It was so cute. They had the kids take their moms to a specific spot on the table where they had made a place mat. Then they served us brunch and sang songs.

City Creek

Amanda asked if I wanted to go check out the new city creek in down town salt lake so of course I said yes. It turned out to be such a great afternoon. If you get a chance go and walk around.

Krissa in Rapunzel

rapunzelrapunzel1

Krissa has been in a theater class all year and they finally ended the year with a performance of Rapunzel. She did such a great job and has gained so much confidence from this class. In fact she will definitely do it next year and next year I’m putting Paislee in to. I can’t wait.

Terrie Funeral

terries program

We laid Brian’s Mom Terrie to rest today. It was a very nice service but very hard to say goodbye. I’m including my talk below just so it will be in my blog book. I was so proud of Krissa for saying the prayer at the funeral she is one brave little girl.

Terrie  and I  had a good relationship. I would call and say hi its your favorite daughter in law and she would call me a word that rhymes with witch.  It was all in love and truly I think terrie and I were a lot like. We both wanted to be right but I have to admit most the time she was right and I was just there to harass her.  I will miss her sarcasm and just being able to text her pictures of the kids or funny things they say.  I thought I would just tell a few stories from family members about Terrie . Because I think that is what she would have wanted. The first person I asked was of course Brian her son, my husband. The first thing he thought of was one Christmas when then were really little and his mom had gotten them all a rubber band guns and all of them including Terrie had a big rubber band war. The next one I remembered. Because terrie told it often. Brian was around 17 and came home five minutes before curfee . Terrie was telling him it was about time he got home and teasing him So Brian started tapping her in the face and slapping her until Terrie reached up and punched him right in the face. She said she would never forget the look on his face.  He said after that happened she would just randomly start laughing at what she had done. I also had to laugh when the principal at the school said he always blushed when terries phone rang because he knew she had to retrieve it from her bra. I remember Brian teasing her once when it rang and he told her she looked like iron man with her chest all lit up.  Terrie was  a great mom. I can’t even imagine becoming a mom at 15 and then eventually having 5 boys. But she did it and I can say they are all great men. Especially the one I have the privilege of calling my husband.  Brent told me a story about learning to drive a stick shift on the d hill. He said his mom was a really good teacher but he still laughs that she made him use his blinker at every turn even though they were in the middle of no where. Bethany Brents wife said she remembered when she and terrie were both trying to quit smoking. Well one day Terrie asked Beth if she wanted to go downtown and get some chicken with her. When beth said she didn’t want to Terrie whispered but I have one cigarette left. So Terrie and Beth ended up behind the grocery store smoking the last cigarette like two high school kids. One thing I loved about terrie is her spunky spirit. If she wanted something she didn’t back down until it happened. I asked my kids what they remembered most and Brady said he remembered every time he got a hug from her she would blow into his cheek. Krissa said she remembered making necklaces and earrings with her. And Paislee said she remembered grandma playing barbies with her. They all remembered the fun camp outs we had. Terrie was always hanging out in her trailor with barbies, coloring pages and all the kids. In fact we went on the last campout with her the week before the accident. I will forever be grateful that we got to spend those three days with her and we got to hug her and say I love you one last time. Terrie loved her job at the school as a recess aid. She was always telling me stories about the kids and talking about how she loved all of them.

Something I learned over the last 9 months is how much love shawn had for Terrie. He never missed a weekend with her and seemed to be always one step ahead of even the nurses when it came to her care.
I would like to leave you with the story I found in a book a friend loaned me. It says: I am standing upon the seashore A ship in the distance spreads her sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean and I stand  and watch until at last the ship hangs like a speck of a white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone says There she goes. Gone where? Gone from sight that is all. She is just as large in mast as she was when she left my side. Her diminishing size is in me not her. And just  at the moment when someone says there she goes there are other eyes watching her coming and the other voices ready to shout Here she comes.
That is exactly what happened the other day as we watched her slip away and were saddened. Brandon and her dad were so happy to see her arrive.

One of the hardest and nicest things of the day was watching Shawn on his Harley as he led the hearse to the cemetery. Terrie would have loved it.
